OUR HERO INGREDIENT
MEET KANNA.
Kanna is a succulent native to southern Africa. It grows close to the ground in dry, rocky landscapes, often sheltered beneath shrubs. Its fleshy leaves store water, and its delicate flowers range from white and pale yellow to pale pink.
For centuries, San and Khoikhoi communities have valued this plant for its calming and mood lifting effects.

KANNA’S HISTORY
THE PEOPLE
BEHIND THE PLANT.
The San and Khoikhoi are distinct Indigenous people of Southern Africa, with ancestries that include some of the oldest human lineages in the world. Their communities still live across Southern Africa today, carrying a long and rich history of using Kanna.
At harvest time, people would travel from far and near to gather the plant. By fermenting and drying it, they could prepare enough for the year ahead, ready to be chewed on long hunting trips to help with hunger, thirst and fatigue, or brewed into tea to ease tension and lift their mood.
These everyday uses were part of a wider relationship with Kanna that included social gatherings and spiritual practices. As people shared their knowledge of the plant and how to prepare it, that relationship continued from one generation to the next.

THEN AND NOW
ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE.
MODERN SCIENCE.
Long before Kanna was studied in a lab, people valued it for the way it made them feel. Today, Kanna has been studied for its effects on reducing anxiety, supporting mood and enhancing mental clarity, bringing a scientific understanding to the calming qualities people have valued for generations.
At NuMuti, we’ve taken it a step further, pairing standardized Kanna extract with carefully selected nootropics and adaptogens. A blend created to support mood, ease social tension, and help you feel more open, present, and connected.
